Add one image to the Gallery (26.02.16)

NOTE 1: before adding an image please make every effort to ensure that it doesn't already exist in the CA website.

Before an image can be uploaded it must be checked for size and if necessary re-sized. As a guide the image format should be .jpg/.jpeg OR .png and the File size must be less than 3MB and the Pixel Size (Height x Width) less than 1,000,000 pixels (1MP) (e.g.1200px X 800px = 960,000px).

As a generalisation (depending upon the editor software in use) set the resolution between 72ppi and 150ppi (Pixels per inch); maintain same aspect ratio as original; and change the Pixel Size to be less than 1MP as above. (I think that's right!!!).

Reminder – DON'T keep repeating the Edit>Save sequence in .jpg format. this slightly degrades the image each time it is done. Some editing software allow images to be saved in the software's own format that doesn't degrade this way (e.g. Paint Shop Pro allows saving in .psp format for editing purposes, and then 'save-as- .jpg OR .png when finished). If this reminds you of 'granny' and 'sucking eggs', I apologise!

Registered User (Front End). version 2, April 2015.

NOTE 2: Access Control cannot be set on individual images. If images uploaded must not have public access, then a separate category needs to be created. (See Administrator).

Log on to website and click on PHOTO'S button on the Top Menu bar. A list of all the main categories will be shown (a few have sub-categories and these will be seen when main category is clicked). Those with a picture of a file will be empty. Those with content will show a image thumbnail.

Click the appropriate category (or sub-category if necessary) into which the image is to be loaded.

Scroll down the resulting page to see the Upload panel.

Click the Upload tab for uploading single image. (Not necessary at the moment - Multiple Upload disabled)

Click the [Browse] button to go to the local Hard Drive folder containing images. Search the folder and click on the image file to be uploaded. Click [Open] button. The filename will appear in the Upload panel. (When uploading from Front-end, spaces are allowed in file name).

Type a title in the Image Title box (max 30 Characters). Add a Description if necessary.

Click [Start Upload] button. Image thumbnail will appear in the selected category/sub-category, and a message "Item saved" will appear. Click the thumbnail to confirm enlarged view will be shown.

Note (a): if upload fails check that the file size isn't too big. (See first few paragraphs).

Note (b) for Admin: At this point image has been saved in, Media Manager; Phoca Gallery Images; and 'cpanel' database - all at the same time, and can be seen by the public.

Administrator (Back end). version 2 April 2015.

(Because of Note (b) above, uploading from Front End is seen as easier! and therefore recommended).

Login as Administrator and select Content > Media Manager. Scroll down list on LH side, and click on Folder/category into which the image is to go. Click the green [Upload] button. Click [Browse] button to go to local Hard Drive. Select folder that stores the image file and click on the file name to select it.

Note (c): as from April 2015, filename has to be alpha-numeric and without spaces - underscores may be used.

Click [Open] button. File name will appear in the upload panel - check for correctness. Click [Start Upload] button. Thumbnail of image will appear on page.

(Image is now in Media Manager and 'cpanel>File Manager'; but not in Phoca Gallery/Images and not visible from Front End)

Next, select Component> Phoca Gallery> Images and click green [New]

Enter a Title for the image, ignore Alias box. Use drop-down list of categories/sub-categories to select destination.

Click the [Select filename] button to bring up a view of the Media Manager folders and click on the folder in which the original image was saved. Click on the image thumbnail, returns to the creation page with filename entered.

Scroll down and add additional Description information in the Editor panel if necessary.

Click [Save& Close] button.

(Image is now in Phoca Gallery/Images and visible to public.)

Next: go to [Photo's] in top menu bar, find the appropriate category containing the saved file and click on the thumbnail to ensure a larger image appears.

NOTE 3. Delete images.

Delete in Joomla > Component > phoca gallery > Images > select image > [Delete]

Also Joomla > Media Manager > phoca gallery > select folder > select image/s > [Delete]

If image file is to be re-used the file must be deleted in Database (cpanel > File Manager > Document Root for Caldecott.org.uk [bottom radio button] > Images > phoca gallery > Double L_click on Category Icon > R_click on file icon > select 'Delete' from drop down menu) (needs to be  Administrator or Super Admin access).
