 Caldecot House – Claramont House. Claramont was the estate of Sir Gore Ousley with an ice house in the grounds. In the 1920s it was home to the Caldecott Community and in the 1930s became Cuthbert’s nursery. The area is now housing. The house was 18th Century, refaced in cement

Caldecot House

TL 30SW 4/15 9.5.72 Caldecot House (formerly Claramont))

Refaced in cement early-mid C19. Italianate style, some
Regency detailing. Slate roof. 2 storeys and attics. Main
block has 5 sash windows with glazing bars, central one Venetian.
Ground floor has French casements and central porch with piers
and entablature. Door with reeding and paterae surround.
Acanthus leaf frieze cornice and dentil course. 3 box dormers.
End elevations to right with 2-storey sash bow window and walls
to match the front. 2-window extensions to left of front with
walls to match it and 2 box dormers. 1-bay extension beyond that,
raised up as a tower with round-headed top window and balustraded
parapet. Various rear extensions.

Property now demolished and removed from register circa 1972
